Information on Tottori Prefecture


The prefectural capital is Tottori.

Tottori Prefecture is located in the west in Japan. In a northern part, the coastline in Tottori sand dunes continues. In the southern part, the mountain ranges. Tottori Prefecture is geographical feature with much mountain land. And the plain is formed in the valley of three rivers.

Climate is a heavy snowfall area in the Sea of Japan side climate. However, it is warm in spring to autumn. Therefore, the four seasons is very beautiful. Moreover, Tottori Prefecture has few natural disasters, such as a typhoon.

Tottori Prefecture has rich nature. And many fish and shellfishes are caught. Agricultural products produce rice, vegetables, and fruit. Moreover, Tottori Prefecture is famous for a watermelon and shallots. Examples of traditional craftsmanship have inshu Japanese paper with 1000 years of history.
