The prefectural capital is Wakayama.

Wakayama Prefecture is warm and is blessed with nature. And much fruit grows up. The quantity of production of a plum, a persimmon, and a mandarin orange is the 1st in Japan. Moreover, production of a peach, a Hassaku orange, a kiwi, and a fig is Japanese top class.
77% of Wakayama Prefecture is a forest. The area measures about 3637 square meters. And many artificial plantations of the Japan cedar and the cypress are planted.

Wakayama Prefecture is surrounded by the about 65-km coastline. Therefore, a fishing is very prosperous.
Major industries are oil, chemistry, steel, a textile machine, and optical apparatus.
